John Behan – Odyssey

John Behan – Odyssey

Synopsis

Now in his early 80s, John Behan RHA, perhaps Ireland’s best-known living sculptor is as busy as ever with regular exhibitions in Ireland and overseas. Born in Dublin’s north inner city, his work has always dealt with displacement of people and emigration. One of his most celebrated pieces of public sculpture is the National Famine Memorial in Co. Mayo.

In 2018 and 2019, he travelled to Athens to volunteer at Camp Eleonas, a centre for migrants and refugees, where he gave art workshops.

Post pandemic he returns to Greece and looks back at his remarkable career.
